POLITICS AND HISTORY TODAY: TRUMP AND HIS EFFECT ON THE AFRICAN AMERICAN COMMUNITY

11/29/2019

We recently took a closer look at Donald Trump, his campaign, his slogan, and his effect on the minority communities. Let's first start with the slogan "Make America Great Again". The underlying message is to strip our country to its original principals which to him means to scale back everything that benefits the minority population and go back to the cookie-cutter origin of the "American Dream". I feel this is a dream specifically designed for a certain race of Americans, and more so further feeding into the agenda of the 1 percenters. In order to do anything for the people Donald Trump would have to first realize that our country is no longer in its early stages and through integration, it has now become one of the most diverse countries on the map, and with growth comes change.

With people of color (not just the African American community) now dominating education, science, economics, and social services, to name a few we now have a need for a balanced and equal law structure which is more crucial now than perhaps ever before. His entire campaign was built primarily on the fact that he would undo a lot of the things that our former president Barack Obama had in place in regards to the economy and minorities. Stating in several campaigns that he is already a business a man and has the know-how to apply those same techniques to help stimulate our lackluster economy. When indeed he is a businessman with a bare minimum success rate. With a few thriving investments under his belt, he has also had a few not so resilient bankruptcy, which makes him merely a mediocre businessman with a lot of ambition.

Though he has had no dramatic effect on the African American community thus far. I'm sure somethings are on the horizon with him already proposing income-based insurance cuts and funding was to manipulate government funding of Historically Black colleges. He is using an argument of equality to justify these laws overlooking the fact that HBCU's should indeed receive funding if not for more than the mere fact that while we were still struggling to be able to attend any college our white counterparts were already graduating.

To shy away from this being strictly about race, the whole idea that the founding fathers (and I use that term loosely) had when creating the Constitution was liberty (freedom), life and the pursuit of happiness. With the recent rising of cops killing innocent Americans and Mr. Trump creating new laws to protect our Law enforcement officials but nothing in regards to protecting innocent civilian lives. I'm convinced of one thing. Nothing he does will be done politically correct. Let's "Make America Great" again by everyone going out and voting at the next election to ensure the man we pick the lead the country is educated and thinks equally enough to do so successfully.
